A few weeks ago Kallen had a Dr's appointment down in Portland for his screwed up knee. We decided to make a weekend of it and visit some family and then go camping!
This picture out the car window obviously does no justice to the beautiful Mt. Hood straight ahead behind the clouds. It is gorgeous!! We stayed the night in Portland with my aunt and uncle, and got to hang out with my cousin Peter and his family a little bit too. It is so fun to live close to family.
This was our first camping adventure with Madison. It was out of the question last summer since she was crying for hours at a time in the middle of the night. (makes for very UN-happy campers!) She has been doing MUCH better sleeping, although doesn't always make it an entire night. Usually she just talks and laughs and entertains herself while she is up though (ie why she is still in a crib where she can't roam around and get hurt!)
Our good friends the Bennetts made the long drive down to camp with us. It was Monique's first time camping and she was such a trooper!! Slept right on the ground, froze both nights, spent an entire day/night in the rain, etc. without a single complaint!!
Their son Peyton climbing the tree right by our campsite. We were just outside of Tillamook OR at Rockaway beach. It was a beautiful campground, and just right off the beach.
Don't be fooled- she did not do a whole lot of sleeping. I am sad to say that my baby isn't so small any more, and I think she had a hard time staying comfortable in the pack and play. The first night she was up at 2:30am and finally at around 6am we gave up trying to keep her quiet and just got up. I put a few more layers on her the next night and when she started fussing in the middle of the night, just put her on the air mattress between us. That meant I basically "slept" wedged between the pack and play and the air mattress half on the ground, but hey- it was a much better night! I actually might even try camping again when it is a bit warmer, and just put her between us to start with.

We had a blast playing on the beach- even in the cold! Can't wait to go back to this spot when it is warmer!!
We toured the Air Museum in Tillamook...and the cheese factory. Yummmy!!
This was Madison's first time seeing the ocean. My family went to the Oregon coast every summer since the year my Mom was pregnant with me. Needless to say I love it and it is a super special place for me, so I had high hopes for Miss Madison....
She did not disappoint! She LOVED it! Even though we didn't play in the water or even build a sand castle, she had a blast and was thrilled to watch the waves and run around.
On the drive home we stopped at Multanomah Falls for a few minutes. It is beautiful! It was a fun trip, but a quick one for the 5+ hr. drive. Can't wait to go back!
