Camping at Bucks Lake

We decided to take our vacation in Northern Cali this year and visit Kallen's family as well as get some good camping in. The only downfall was the smoky air from the nearby forest fires. At least it wasn't the forest we were in! Jonathan, Arlene, Norm, Karissa, Katie, and Brian all joined us for various parts of our adventure. It was great fun and such a change to not wear a watch OR make-up for an entire week! Next time I'll put in a request for the baths (AKA the lake) to be a little warmer :)

The view from our camp- smoky, but beautiful!
Kallen's nieces, nephews and some cousins showing off how big our muscles are.

The kids made fast friends with Arlene

Kallen mastered the fire smoke with his headlamp and swimming goggles. He can "now look it straight in the face and laugh" so he says.
The hammock officially passed the 700 pound test
Hal started out as a little white fluffy dog and by the end of the trip was a greyish yellow (dirt and pollen.) He didn't know what to think at first, but he ended up being a pretty good little camper- he jumped right in the water with us, climbed all the rocks and smelled every last bit of forest that he could. Looks like the little chat I had with him before we left worked for the most part and he will be allowed to go again.

Indian Falls...just down the river from here was a great spot for some cliff jumping.
What would camping be without some good games!? The boys are enjoying a good game of Settlers-good thing it wasn't windy!!
Check out my Katie who I recall telling me oh, about 3 1/2 years ago, that she really disliked dogs! Ha ha. She has this boxer Tank (who apparently thinks he's a lap dog) and a little guy named Harley now thanks to Brian.

Brian with his ADORABLE son, Tyler.

We decided to call it quits a day early as the 4th of July brought lots of wind and more smoke. Thank goodness Kallen's Grandma Bernice lives about 40 minutes away and put us up for a few nights. She even fed us and let me get all of our stinky laundry done! What a relief to come home and only have to unpack and put away clean clothes!!

It was a much needed break and we had a blast. Perhaps we'll make it an annual trip?? Any takers for next year?
